NT Learning gives everyone the chance to discover new skills and to experience the excitement of theatre-making, through inspiring projects at the National Theatre, in schools and with people of all ages across the UK. Through online resources we open up theatre-making at the National to students across the world.

We offer a range of workshops and events to support your students’ connection with the production in London and on tour.

IN LONDON

Curious Workshop

Workshops put students in the roles of company members, combining script work and devised movement to bring to life Christopher’s unique perspective on the world.

  • Price: £225 per group (Max 25 students)
  • Date and Time: Any weekday, time negotiable
  • Venue: John Lyon Education Studio
  • Suitable for KS3/4/5 students. Available to all groups visiting London production.

Q&A Sessions

Q&A sessions are led by the Staff Director on The Curious Incident, or by one of our Learning Associates, and are designed to give students a clear understanding of how director, designer and actors have realised the production.

  • Price: £2.50 per student (Teachers free)
  • Date: Before any weekday performance by arrangement
  • Time: 6.15 – 6.45pm (5.45 – 6.15pm on Tuesdays)
  • Venue: Gielgud Theatre (from June 2014)
  • Suitable for KS3/4/5 students. Available to all groups visiting London production and at selected venues on tour

Post-show Q&A

Led by members of the Curious Incident company, post-show Q&A sessions are open to anyone with a ticket for that night’s performance.

  • Free to ticket holders
  • Date: the first Tuesday of every month
  • Time: immediately after the performance (lasts 20 – 30 minutes)
  • Venue: Gielgud Theatre (auditorium)
  • Suitable for all audience members

Frantic Assembly: Curious Incident Movement Uncovered

Experience the physicality of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time with the production’s Movement Directors Frantic Assembly. Join a Frantic practitioner for a highly physical and energetic workshop; fly through the air, get lost at Swindon station and uncover the everyday moments in Christopher’s world.

  • Price: £240 – £390
  • Date and Time: Any day of the week and time (book in advance to avoid disappointment)
  • Venue: A Frantic practitioner will visit your school anywhere in the UK.
  • Suitable for KS4/5 students. Available to all groups visiting London production and on tour

ON TOUR

Curious Incident Insight Session

An hour-long interactive insight into different aspects of the current production led by Kim Pearce (Resident Director on both UK Tours of Curious Incident).

Please choose one of the following options for the main focus of your event:

  • Inside the Rehearsal Room; an overview of how the creative team worked collaboratively to bring the production to life including practical interactive demonstrations of how the actors and directors work in rehearsals to unlock the script.
  • Technical In Focus; a multi-media insight into the processes used by the design team when imagining this production for the first time and how the audio/visual elements have evolved in line with the staging from in-the-round to proscenium arch.
  • From Novel to Play; a practical session using writing exercises to explore how dialogue, character, comedy and tension can be shaped through deeper exploration of the novel.

Suitable for any group seeing the production, up to a maximum of 90
Date and Time: Any weekday (time negotiable) during the run of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Venue: Tour venues, or your group’s school or venue (on request)
Cost: £180 per session (plus additional travel costs if at your group’s venue)
